Competition Topics January – April 2020

January 28 – Open: Only for this competition the rules as detailed in Article IV – Images are not relevant. Creativity and use of various mode, filters, or creative features your camera or photo computer program has available is encouraged. The Judge is instructed to evaluate each image based on the quality of the image.

February 25 – Color: This is an image where the main subject is predominately of one color. This could include a person in a yellow, red, or blue dress or shirt; an orange sunset; a field of yellow sunflowers; one or more red houses in a scene; or a garden of red roses. The deciding factor is that at first glance the image must unmistakably tell the viewer “I am an image of “X” color.” Black and white images do not qualify. Black is not defined as a color as a black object absorbs all the colors of the visible spectrum and reflects none of them to the eyes. White is not defined as a color because it is the sum of all possible colors.

March 24 – Architectural Details: This includes small details of a building’s interior or exterior. Good subjects for architectural shots include items like the decorated bases of columns, pedestals, elaborate doorframes and window frames, or gargoyles. A statue or furniture that is not part of the building is not acceptable.

April 28 – End of Year Competition – Up to three unaltered competition entries that placed 1st, 2nd, 3rd or Honorable Mention during the competition year are eligible to be entered for the same medium and in the class of the member.
